2013 Bahia Summer Program - Brazilian Society, Culture and Politics. Salvador, July 23 – 29

The partnership between Howard University (Washington, DC) and the Federal University of Bahia, through the Program Color of Bahia, began in 2002 with the Project Race, Inequality and Social Development, and is part of the consortium Capes/Fipse aimed at supporting student mobility through partnerships between universities in Brazil and the United States. This project also includes Vanderbilt University (Nashville, USA) and the University of São Paulo (São Paulo, Brazil). Since 2008, this partnership has continued through the Project Access and Equality in Higher Education in Brazil and the United States. Over more than a decade, dozens of undergraduate students from various courses in the field of Humanities from USP and UFBa have had training opportunities in the United States in anticipation of the current initiative of the Science Without Borders Program.

The mission of students and professors from Howard University at UFBa in July 2013 is another initiative of this successful partnership with one of the most respected Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) of the United States. The schedule of activities includes lectures on topics relating to Brazilian society, visits to historically significant and symbolic places in the city of Salvador, as well as participation in cultural activities.
